But i'm not surprised. Erykah has always been eclectic with her sounds. She is one soulful lady. And i love her quirky fashion sense! I haven't listened to the rest of her other singles yet, but i'm pretty sure she won't dissapoint.

Remember the Nelson twins? Matt and Gunner Nelson are their names. I bought their first (After The Rain album) album back in the early 90s and thought there are some good songs in there. They did sound a bit country-ish but their sound is more towards pop rock. The first thing that caught my attention was how they really look the same. I mean even hair style, they way they dressed and i even looked them up in the web for any latest news...and walla! they're still around. Shorter hair but still the same fashion. To the other twins...this song is for you guys...miss u x

I wonder if you guys knew Butch Walker? We'll he's doing solo stuff now and he used to be in a band called Southgang. Yep, the name says it all, some old school rock and roll, country and mississipi style blues. I do have to say though, they sounded great before with Jesse Harte's controlled high pitch screaming voice that could also go down to low keys...Bring back the big hair and tight jeans with bandana as the head gear...then you're back in the 80's rock age...

Funnily enough, US rock bands before used to have enough coverage here in my country. I used to be able to get new bands which i couldnt get anywhere else. I bought Southgang's 1st album entitled Tainted Angel and the only thing i could remember about the CD cover was this hot woman wearing a sexy number with angel's wings...oh did i mentioned she's blond as well hahahaha...

Vertically challenged

Vertical Horizons was formed in 1990 and they were big with their hit song "Everything you want". Believe it or not, that single was released only in 1999 when they signed up with RCA. To be honest, thats the only big hit that they managed to conjure up. The nad has been struggling with marketing and record label issues.

Last night i watched probably one of their rare videos (i cant even find it in youtube). They sang the live version of "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning) which to me is one of the best songs ever to grace the rock music. They released their latest effort entitled "GO" and honestly speaking, considering the fact that we live in this side of the world, i dont think the band is going to get enough exposure again like before. Their 1st single of that album "Forever" so far has not been played in the local radio channels and music tvs here. So I am doing my bit to introduce them to you once again...ladies and gentlemen...Vertical Horizon with their new single..."Forever"

Underrated Sons...

Another Aussie band that i think has been underrated due to lack of exposure. They are mega big in Australia and some parts of Asia but not in Europe or the states. I'm talking about Southern Sons. Without looking at wikipedia the only member i still remember was Phil Buckle. I still remembered getting their cassette back in the early 90s (because CDs were just too bloody expensive back then and internet was such a hassle). I scoured the internet and i couldnt find their albums or main singles. The second album i got from them was Zone...a famous single came out from the album entitled "Hold me in your arms" which received a huge response in Australia and some parts of Asia.

I am not going to feature that track since its too mellow but i do wanna feature another single from their second album...its called "You Were There" its a mellow song as well but just listen to the powerful voice...i can imagine if they have the karaoke to this song...i would definitely belt it out as well hahahahaha

The Exies is a LA based band. Thanks to the Assman, i only got to know them this year. Considering they were formed in 1996...that is considered bad for my standards hehe. Anyway, they apparently have released 4 albums since then and released 1 single album. The song that first caught my ears was "Different Than You" I like the intro to the song. Its a shame that they dont have enough exposure in my country cos i know they would've make it big here. Thank you to SF for dedicating the song to me and it is only right to dedicate The Exies's song different than you...of course...to you and to the rest of the surfers who reads this blog.

Never thought I'd see the day where I start introducing rock music. Don't get me wrong. I love rock. But it's not exactly my forte. More like BR or TFP's. But yeah, I found Ivoryline by accident. This New York trio will definitely rock your brains out with their indie / rock / punk style of music.In their own words, the band creates "rock music of the thoughtful, sometimes epic, often loud, vaguely danceable, implicitly humanist variety". I mean how mixed up is that right? Their single "Nobody Moves" is an awesome piece...have a listen to it...it really made my day :)

and btw, check out the drummer, dont u think he looks like one of the ABBA band members...hahaha...and the bassist as well...i mean how retro was he man...nice specs

I was watching "The Passions of Girls Aloud" last night on the E4 Channel, and God damn, I was inspired! Hahaha...

You know Cheryl Cole from Girls Aloud, right? She's the hot brunette who married footballer, Ashley Cole (from Arsenal FC, I think) and also called poklen Lily Allen "the chick with a dick" (hahaha funny one, that is).

On the show, she was experimenting on street dancing and wanted to audition for Will.I.Am's latest video "Heartbreaker". I thought she was pretty good actually. In fact, I think she's really good! And the song is awesome as well! I can't wait to watch the full version :)

I just finished listening to all the tracks from Alicia Keys' As I Am album which just came out a few days ago... And the verdict?

I absolutely love it! I thought it was going to be a flop because I didn't think the first single, "No one" was that much of a nice song. But after listening to the second single, "Like you'll never see me again", I decided to give it a chance. Overall, it's not as "powerful" as her previous albums, but you can tell that she does try a few different stuff. All I can say is that it's really different from what you would usually expect from Alicia Keys. Plus, she collaborated with John Mayer, which is just the awesomest!

To all lovers of alternative/pop rock, have a listen to Paramore's album, Riot!. I think this band (from Tennessee, USA) are the awesomest! And what's more awesome is that the lead singer is a girl! Don't underestimate her, though. She's no pseudo-rocker like Avril Lavigne is. She can seriously rock her ass off! Listen to them! I promise you won't regret it!!! Although I can compare her to Gwen Stefani, but I'm sure in terms of music, guys would find Paramore more interesting... :)

The 99th Post before it reaches 100!

Dammit. I was hoping I'd be writing the 100th post today. (I bet my fellow members are reading this now and are rushing to write on the next one! =p)

I've got a new artist I'd like to introduce. Patrick Watson is a Canadian indie band (the title comes from the lead singer's name). I first heard "Luscious life" from their The Great Escape album and they instantly reminded me of Coldplay and Travis, so I wasn't sure whether it was the song or the reminder of it that made me like this song so much. That was until I listened to "Close to paradise" which made the band a definite must-have in my playlist. I think it's also because it has this nostalgic effect. Reminded me alot of shit in the past, the same way "Trouble" by Coldplay did when I first heard it. I don't mean to be a lame-ass emo prick or anything, but it might have a stronger effect if you listen to it on a rainy day hahaha... ;p

Those of you who have never heard of Shrift...Well, I'm telling you now. They are amazing. They're from the UK (surprise, surprise!). First heard their song "Blue", one of the sexiest songs I've heard all year. Mistook them for Imogen Heap. So if you like Imogen Heap, you would LOVE Shrift. Overlooking the 90's

I look back at the 90's and there are so many songs that I never really fully appreciated. Like Everything But The Girl, for instance. Introduced to me by one of my greatest influences - Titties. You know who you are, but you don't know about this blog now, do you? :p Anyway, moving on. I only just realised how incredible Tracey Thorn's voice is. How did I not catch that earlier? You see, that's what you get for listening to trash like The Backstreet Boys or Spice Girls. After listening to "Rollercoaster" from their Amplified Heart album, all I could think was...amazing. Simply amazing. I honestly have no words. It's a really great song, I want to CRY. Here is the acoustics. It's just as good as the album version.

The Decemberists

I try not to be too indie, but how can I not, when they're just so in-your-face? It wasn't exactly love at first for me and The Decemberists. I mean, I loved "The bachelor and the bride", but it was...sort of forgettable. Since I can only fit around 200 songs in my shuffle (Poor thing!), I try to put in my favorite songs in there. So far, I have 163 favorite songs. So "The bachelor and the bride" didn't have enough stars to get in my pants. I mean, shuffle. So yeah, I haven't been impressed with them. But my my my...After listening to "Here I dreamt I was an architect", well I must say, they have earned their right to be permanantly stuck in my iPod playlist. I am never letting them go. Cups of Music for the PFTDians

There are so many songs that I've been listening to for the past week, so I'm going to try to be as brief as I can.

As mentioned on the title above, few of the songs I've listened to reminded me of my fellow PFTDians so I'll be dedicating a song (or two) for each of you people based on your tastes... IF I'm correct, that is =)

Siren Frida: Listen to Cousteau's "Highly". And The Style Council's "Headstart for happiness". Good stuff, good stuff... Oh, oh! And Sofamecca's song "Omar Sharif" is not bad. I like the music. It's cute. I think you'd know which part I'm talking about.

Lateral Equator: I know you like mellow acoustics, so David Ryan Harris's "For you" is, well, for you. I've mentioned him in my previous post. You might not be able to find the song anywhere except in his MySpace, but I did send you the song in your email. Don't ask. I'm a genius!

Blissful Renegade: Not sure what your taste in rock is, but a few songs that I've listened to reminds me of the songs you keep playing on the radio back in the days when you were a DJ hehehe... The band is called Stomprocket (or is it Stomp Rocket?). The tracks are called "I vs I" and "Crawl". Hope you like it =)

And as for myself... Hmmm... Let's listen to Mute Math. They are a band that was introduced in John Mayer's blog. Reminds me alot like Police. He recommended "Chaos", "Typical" and "You are mine". But my personal favourite is actually "Noticed". If you listen to this, you can probably see why I've compared them to Police.

Speaking of John Mayer. for all the fans out there, check out this tribute blog a certain someone made for him (hehe). Don't ask who the author is, though some of you might be able to figure out who she is =p

The Perfect Tune...for The Perfect Crime...

I'm guilty of not posting in this website for such a long time. Not that i'm running out of tunes to feature but i've been away and got loadsa stuff to do. Anyway, i was cruising around with my cuz the other day and suddenly a tune was playing on his CD player. It got that urgency and speed that we both looked at each other and next thing you know...vavvvvooooooomm! pedal to the metal baby! yea....I;m talking about a band called the Classic Crime. They released their 1st single called The Fight and the song, the video...everything...is just perfect. When I was working with the radio station a few years back, i always reminded my listeners to be very careful on the road when listening to my show cos simply, rock music can really influence the way you drive...hehehe...well it happened to me...if you dont believe me..try it...but dont say i didnt warn you...have a listen to their music...The Classic Crime..

I'd like to apologise to PFTD for neglecting you for a long long time. You see, I've been busy. Well, at first I have. But I haven't been busy since June. I've been lazy. As lazy as a fat woman with curlers in her hair watching Oprah on TV and eating chips. I haven't been inspired to get off my ass and write about the thing I love the most. Music. The one thing that never fails to disappoint.

Moving on, I'd like to say that this is truly a big moment for me. I haven't found the one song that has been haunting me for years. Years. For years, I've searched and searched on the internet. Even on Amazon. It's been so long, I was even convinced that the song doesn't exist. I even noted it down so I'd never forget. So I'd never give up. So there I was going through a few artists' profiles in MySpace and discovered David Ryan Harris. He reminds me across between Raul Midon, John Legend and Lenny Kravitz. I strongly recommend that you listen to "For you" and "So real", both from The Bittersweet album (not available in iTunes by the way).

It took me - literally - AGES to finally look for Sofamecca's song called "Spider string". (It's also spelled Sofa Mecca - not sure which, really!). I first heard this song from the TV series, Dirt, starring Courteney Cox. Loved it so much it hurts. Couldn't find it in LimeWire or Utorrent. Not even in Amazon. But then I managed to get it from iTunes. The album is called Commuters.

Duets with more... "character"...

No, I'm not talking about the typical duets (think Alicia Keys+Usher="My boo" / Nelly+Kelly Rowland="Dilemma" / Bow Wow+Ciara="Like you") that makes you feel oh-so-lovey-dovey and eventually becomes your favourite "couple song" - and at times, you somehow feel more in love with your partner. That's too easy. Very cliche haha... I'm talking about duets that have more depth. Sometimes hate. Anything which has music and lyrics that catches you by surprise.

I'm loving one of the tracks from Ne-Yo's new album, Because of You. It's called "Leaving tonight" featuring former American Idol finalist and Golden Globe Winner, Jennifer Hudson (from the musical Dreamgirls). Okay...you know how i'm a real youtube whore? So there i was going through a few mixes. I'm usually not in the habit of checking out mixes..especially when raw material that shouldn't be changed in first place is converted in crappy house/progressive/techno/other new age shit. But one of the few emo songs I've been listening to currently is Fergie's "All that I got" featuring former (?) bandmate Will.I.Am. Im talking about Seattle Washington based band The Classic Crime. They released their 1st album entitled Albatross in 2006 and if you listen to their songs...they totally rock! Some quarters labelled them as an indie band, i guess the music they put inside this album is a little bit of mixes of different genres, especially when you listen to their song The Coldest Heart. But their 1st single off the Albatross album also packs punch. Listening to it gave a breath of fresh air. Thanks to Jimbo and AssMan for introducing this band to me and now i can safely say that The Classic Crime is definitely high on my music list. Have a look at their video...

Raul Midon, ladies and gents. I got this song during a holiday, and i think his improv stylings are just amazing. His song "State of Mind" just says it all. He's New York-based but hails from New Mexico. Sometimes, there are moments where there is a pinch of Mayerism and Mrazism in him. But if you listen to his other work, you will find that he has developed a unique style. A different league altogether...i give you...Raaaauuuuulll.......................

Harem Scarem! Thats what i'm talking about! These guys are super. Not a lot of Canadian bands actually made it to the upper tier of super rock band stage. Believe it or not they have been in the music scene since 1987...yes, thats 20 years. They have 12 albums to their name and their 1st hit was "Honestly". I remember when i first heard their 1st single, it was when one of the local radio DJs played their tune when i was on my way to school and instantly thought that the song rocks! Sadly i only got 2 of their albums (Harem Scarem and Mood Swings) and after that it is just impossible to get their albums back in my country. Anyway, i just wanna tell you guys that they can be categorized as one of the legends...in my book that is...enjoy this video...its called Hard To Love...played acoustic in Japan...

I'm talking about Puddle of Mudd. I think they are one of the best rock bands around these days. Founded by Limp Bizkit's frontman Fred Durst, their first single was full of angst entitled "Control" where Durst made a cameo appearance in the video. And it was their 4th single from the album Come Clean that made them reached their peak with the song "Blurry". Now i seriously think this song still kicks ass no matter when and how you play it. It used to be my ringtone for ages before i changed it to Army of Anyone. And to be honest with you, i dont think i will delete that song from my memory card cos it is simply pleasant to be used as a ringtone hehe...anyway, as a tribute to POM...this is the acoustic version of Blurry...enjoy...

The happy song is called "Love vibration" by Josh Rouse from his album in 2003 called 1972. Don't get confused with the dates. It's a post-millenium song, not a a groovy '70s one. Speaking of groovy, yeah, this song is pretty cool. Reminds me a bit of Phoenix here and there. Oh, and Swan Dive, too! (Does anyone have Swan Dive's "Groovy Tuesday"??? Let me know!!!)

Probably one of the most underrated band there is around...Enuff Z'Nuff was formed in 1984 and are still around. I bet you there rest of the PFTD crew have never heard of this band before :). Originating from Blue Island, Chicago, only released their 1st album in 1989 and has 17 albums up to 2007. The one thing that attracted me to this band is their melodic style of play, combining rock and roll riffs and the low pitched voice of frontman, Donnie Vie. I remembered getting their 2nd album entitled Strength and instantly gave a strong impression to me. Songs like Mother's Eyes, Blue Island, Heaven or Hell, Baby Loves You and Goodbye were all catchy.

Only until recently i realized that they only signed to indie record labels which i think was the reason for their lack of exposure to the international circuit. Found their song Baby Loves You in youtube the other day and it took me back to the yester years...i know that i might give it away with this with how old i am but hey...i dont care hehehe...Have a look at their video and just listen to Vie's voice...

Definitely the greatest rock band ever! Formed in 1974, they released ELEVEN studio albums with 3 different singers all throughout, namely David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and of course Extreme's ex frontman...Gary Cherone. Their 1st single "Jump" is still played today in clubs and undoubtedly the most famous rock anthem. The only band to be in the guinness book of records, selling 75 million copies of their albums worldwide. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2007. Eddie is the only guy who has a distinct way of playing his guitar. I mean if you ask me to listen to any particular song without naming the band, i'd be able to recognize straightaway who's on the axe immediately. Just listen to their albums and you'll get what i mean. I prefer Sammy Hagar's voice than the two other singers (no disrespect to David and Gary) but i seriously think that Hagar's voice blends well with the whole VH's tune. They did a song for the movie Twister called Humans Being. Check out Eddie's style of play and Hagar's voice. They're currently on hiatus but i'm sure once Eddie's problems are over...they're gonna come back with a big bang, probably with another new singer?...hahaha VAN HALEN ROCKS!

Well if you haven't figured it out yet, Im talking about Arizona based band called Jimmy Eat World. Formed in the early 90's, they have 5 albums under their belt. Linton, the group's frontman always manage to let go his melodramatic, angry ways of expressing songs. They became famous with their 1st single called "Sweetness"and died down after that until they released their latest effort called "Effort" which managed to release 3 singles from that album. I would say they area very much established in the States but they still need to be unleashed everywhere. I mean i will not be surprised if some people haven't actually heard of them before, especially with a name like Jimmy Eat World! Hands down to them...one of my favourite bands around...check out this video guys...

Ever heard of the Whirlpool Productions? I must say, they're pretty hard to find, this one. The first song I heard from them was "The Cold Song". I remember the video. The guy with the afro with the tight purple shirt...I guess you could say it was an appropriate video. His nipples were so hard, they could practically stab you. Cold song, indeed. Anyway, that's disco. Their other song "Lifechange" is hot. If you love house music, then I highly recommend this one. So groovy. Watch the video and dance yourself to death. Oh, and I should also recommend her album from 2004, Let It Die. The tracks in there are great, too. Absolutely great... =)

Architecture In Helsinki is an indie band originated from Australia. Just recently heard one of their tracks "Scissor Paper Rock" from their previous album Fingers Crossed. Fell in love with it the first time listening to it. It's a cutesy song that kinda reminds me of Swedish band Cinnamon and maybe a bit of UK band China Red. Love this song. Give it a go :)

Today i am in mourning...Haha..Not really...Someone special has gone for a week..and well..let's just say i'm the type of person who gets used to something..and gets an abundance of it that when it gets taken away even for a week...the repercussions become catastrophic. Hahahaha...Brutal truth...But nonetheless honest.

First entry since my last which was probably 3 weeks ago..would have to be a tribute to Stevie Wonder. I owe a lot of credit to BR since he was the one who browsed it first. But i'm sure he wouldn't mind me making a tribute to one of the biggest names in Motown history. This song comes from his definitive collection set in the late 60s called "I Don't Know Why". This song, for me is a bit darker than his usual sunny side that people just seem to love, but personally i prefer Stevie the realist(or in this case, the depressed..haha). I recommend this song for the sad souls who've just been through a shitty break up. However, if you decide to slit your wrists...i will not be held responsible. Hahaha. I feel this song is just too damn underrated, and that is why i would have to applaud the Brand New Heavies for making a new cover version. Not as good as the original but it still works with N'Dea' Davenports soul stylings, which added a bit of a nice female pinch...if you know what i mean. Check out the Brand New Heavies old song from the album Brother,Sister called "Dream on Dreamer" too if you have time. And their other songs if you're in the mood for funk and soul.

So there you have it. Stevie Wonder's underrated "I Don't Know Why"(1969) or the Brand New Heavies (2007) cover version. Blast from the past or Invasion of the present. Take your pick.

I dreamt of Al Green last night. Shit. It was awesome...and kind of aggravating. I was in a crowded room and all of a sudden, he appeared. I yelled, "Omigod, Al Green!" Couldn't believe my eyes. People looked at me like I was stupid. "Al who?" they asked. And I was like, "It's AL GREEN!" And I went up to him and hugged him. Hmmm...He is much bigger than I thought. Tears were stinging my eyes. He was singing my favorite song "Let's stay together". And then I sang along...Well, at least I attempted to.

But it sounded more like a whimper, because I was crying so hard. It was as if it was my last performance on American Idol after being eliminated. And then that's when Al made fun of me. "That ain't singing!" he said. "That's whimpering!" Hit me where it hurts, Al! No, really!

And then there was this girl who sang along. She had a beautiful voice. But fuck that, she doesn't even know who Al Green is!

And then I woke up.

So we were talking the other day. We were talking about the songs that makes us cry (Oh, shut up!). It took me a while to answer this. I mean, I never cried cried, but damn, this song is so tragic, it does make you wanna slit your wrists - hypothetically speaking, of course.

The Veils

They're an Indie band from the UK called The Veils. Lead singer Finn Andrews isn't really that good a singer, but he makes up for it with his artsy-fartsy demeanor and dramatic stage presence. My only favorite song is "Lavinia" from their previous album called The Runaway Found. I'm sure all of you that know them would probably agree. So yeah, was checking out the video and - voila! - what is YouTube without people making home videos and doing covers of their favorite artists, right? I was impressed by a user who did an acoustic cover of this song. For one thing, he didn't screw it up and second, his voice reminded me of the lead singer of Incubus, Brandon Boyd. Well, that what I think, anyway.

So, guys, have your ropes ready to hang yourselves with.

I'm kidding. But do bear in mind that this song is not easy to sing. So yeah, gotta respect a guy who tries, right?

Vanilla Fudge, a rock band from the '60s. They covered The Supremes song "You keep me hanging on" with a psychedelic twist - or "psychedelic rock", as Lateral Equator puts it. If it doesn't ring a bell, you might have heard of the latest cover from Mark Ronson's "Stop me" and he still doesn't do the song justice. Vanilla Fudge makes him sound bland compared to their version. Gotta loves it. Watch the video and tell me how fucking awesome they are. Oh and check out the organs, drummer and background vocal - "OooOooOooh...!"

I'm talking about ENDO. Definitely so underrated. Formed in 1995 but sadly enough, they were disbanded in January 2007. Just recently! Signed to Columbia Records and managed to produce 2 albums. After that, they only played for opening acts and still competing in battle of the bands. I mean, for a band who managed to produce 2 albums (Evolve and Songs For The Restless) and still competing in battle of the bands??!! i mean what the hell right? They had a song that was featured in the movie Daredevil and they simply rock man. After that they went missing...a final tribute to a band that worked so hard and never made it out there!...

Leela James. She's the same artist who sang the cover version of "Don't speak" by No Doubt. But that's not the song I'll be showcasing tonight. Her song "Music", from her album A Change Is Gonna Come, is pure soul. Her voice reminds me so much of Joss Stone, except that she's not as overrated and doesn't have to try too hard.

I don't mean to be a lame-ass or anything, but I think the lyrics to this song is awesome. It isn't much or anything, but when I looked it up, the first thought that came to mind was, "I'm feelin' you, Leela... I'm totally feelin' you." Haha...

The next song I'm going to introduce to you is called "Goodbyes" by Kelis from her 4th album Kelis Was Here. When you listen to this, you might notice that in the first 30 seconds of this song, the piano solo sounds a bit like Alicia Keys' "If I ain't got you" song, except that it's got more of a minor mode to it.

Damn, she looks pretty hot in here... Look at her legs... Niccceeee...

One thing I just love about Kelis is that she's really different from the other contemporary R&B artists nowadays because she isn't as mainstream (except for "Milkshake" from her Tasty album in 2003... Now that's just a bit overrated...) Plus, she's got this rock+R&B side to her that I just love. She's kinda like the female version of Lenny Kravitz. But that's just my opinion... =)

This new act is from Vegas. Their music is post-hardcore. Now if you're wondering what the hell is post-hardcore, have a listen to the Used of Eighteen Visions. If you like either of the two bands mentioned, then i think you're going to like Escape The Fate. Their first single is called Not Good Enough For the Truth Cliche. When i first heard them, i thought Ronnie's voice sound more or less the same like Bert's (The Used) and they have that same angst delivery to their music. I highly recommend this band to anybody, and i get the feeling that they're gonna be big in the music scene. Escape the fate?...depends...

They're a band from Manchester, started their music career sometime in the 90s. I had one of their latest tracks (When I say latest, I really meant 2005) in my iTunes, but didn't realise how great they were. But let's go back. It isn't "Forget myself" that caught my attention (though the song is pretty forgettable to me), it was their song "Asleep in the back" that I absolutely love. Don't know how they managed to get past me, but yes! I found it. Loves it. Think Ambulance Ltd.'s "Arbuckle's swan song" (God, I still really hate the title).

Yeah, I thought so. Pretty obvious isn't it? (and if you've never watched the show, they were last year's American Idol finalists, Elliot Yamin and Katharine McPhee.)

So let me just give you my individual reviews, yes?

I am very, very impressed with this one. He was one of my favourites in American Idol and thought it was a pity that he was given the boot early without even reaching the top 2. Well, it doesn't matter now, coz his debut album reached #1 in the Billboard's Independent Albums this week.

I was a bit surprised to find out that Katharine McPhee's debut album is more R&B. I always thought she might sing Country music instead. Maybe it's the voice, I don't know. Although I think she has a great voice, I just didn't think R&B suits her. Country? Yes. R&B? Uhhmmm... No. I think she sounds alot like Christina Aguilera. Her style of music is similar to hers. Predictable. I think it's one of those albums where you thought almost all the songs are great, but when you listen to it again, you kinda feel a bit irritated.

I'm listening to The Shins' new album called Wincing the Night Away at the moment. I'm not sure if I'm in a total emo mode right now, but somehow, listening to the tracks in this album kinda made me see things a lot more clearly, hence, the appreciation of life... (Yeah, indie music kinda does that alot to me somehow... Haha... =/)

But yeah, moving on... It'll remind you alot of The Smiths+Doves. I think they're awesome. My personal favourites from this album are "Black wave", "Girl sailor", "Phantom limbs", "Red rabbits", "Sea legs" and "Split needles". Whereas for the rest of them, they're pretty good too.

Just found out this new band from Sydney Australia. They called themselves Sick Puppies, comprised of Shimon Moore on vocal and guitar, Emma Anzai on the bass and Mark Goodwin on the drums. I heard a couple of their songs and the 1st thing that came to my mind was...HELL YEA! this is the band. Lets just hope they're gonna make the break though in the music scene, not just in Australia...but all over! They deserve the credit, especially when they got a hot bassist! hahaha have a listen to their 1st single "All The Same"...i think the video is nice...the message is very much soaked in by viewers...

Black Star's Talib Kweli

I'm currently listening to Talib Kweli's "Talk to you (Lil' Darlin')" featuring Bilal. This song is pure chocolate. This song reminds me of De La Soul, The Fugees, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and maybe a little bit of Motown royalties like Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers or Al Green - all of the greats. Wrapped in one. Gotta love this track, I do. If you're up for a quiet drive with the missus, listen to this sexy one. Underrated. This song is underrated.

So anyways i was at the workstation in uni trying to find my research pieces until i came upon Salman Rushdie. You know the dude with the Satanic verses, that controversial book in the 80's in which he dubbed was the biggest mistake of his life?Well that's besides the point..he's recovered from his blasphemous ways and co-wrote a song with U2's Bono called Ground Beneath Her Feet. I am a big lover of U2...always have and always will...This song was done, well i'm not too sure but if you've watched Million Dollar hotel starring Milla Jovovich (weird alien looking chick from 5th element, but extremely hot in Return to the Blue Lagoon and Dazed and Confused!). Enjoy. This song is as deep as they come. But you know U2..once they're deep..it just tugs at your very heartstrings...and also another version below the original..for the acoustic lovers....

Put a hard core metal band together with a melodic voice of a woman...what will you get? A definite beauty. Thats what i thought when i first heard the unplugged version of "Freak On A Leash"by Korn featuring the lovely Amy Lee. The raw voice of Jonathan Davis fits perfectly well with Amy's. These guys made a lasting impression when i first saw their video years back. Formed in 1995, Biffy Clyro made their first break with their debut album entitled Blackened Sky. And one their single was simply called 57 which was released in 2002. And guess what guys? They are all Scotsmen. Hahaha...yes...i mean i heard of bands coming from the Baltic areas but from Scotland?..Never heard of any, well except for Texas, but she's not really a rock star anyway, more of mainstream kinda pop-ish genre. Anyway, back to these Scotsmen, amazingly they have produced 14 singles and released 3 albums. Amazing achievement isn't it? But sadly, i think they have lacked the publicity. Well, its time to put them on the spot and what better way to expose them than to feature Biffy Clyro in PFTD. You be the judge...I think they rock and they sound nothing like any of those mainstream rock bands. Off with the kilt and bagpipes....

This band needs to be given more credit considering the fact they released 3 albums since their formation in 1996. Some people knew them as the one hit wonder band from the 1st single "Counting Blue Cars". Their second album in 98 wasn't as big as the first one due to problems with their record label, but you should check out their Opaline album (not orphanage...thanks to some people!!) released in 2005. They are soooo back and i think you should check out their songs there. I truly think they have been unlucky in some ways that they are not getting enough attention. But that can also mean 1 thing, they will not become mainstream like other bands. Thumbs up, 5-star rating, a ten out of ten to Dishwalla for being one of the best band around...you guys are worthy of my iPod hehehe...

I was watching American Idol last night. I love how Chris Richardson sang the acoustic version of "Don't let the sun catch you crying", originally sung by Gerry & the Pacemakers. I thought it was just awesome, though I'm not Chris Richardson's biggest fan.

OK, so i fumbled a few names on the Beautiful South's song...so what right? Its hard ok...its hard to remember all of those names by heart. Now for those of you who thinks that the video to the Beautiful South is cheesy, try watching Damn Yankees video High Enough. No doubt that this song is still good to listen to, but i was thinking right, the video could do a little bit of work man. I mean considering the fact that the guitar player is legend back in the 70's, 80's and 90's (not sure if i heard any latest work from him this decade). I'm sure y'all heard of Robin Thicke. Used to be known as just Thicke and who I think is one of the most underrated music artists in the century. Anyway, I came across one of his songs by chance called "Against the world". It wasn't on the Beautiful World album nor was it on The Evolution of Robin Thicke album. This track is pretty sweet and it absolutely reminds me of "Beautiful world" and my favorite "I need love" (which I might just review one of these days cos I love that song so much). Love this shit. Incubus by far is one of the best bands that ever lived. I have no words to describe how much i love this band. From Drive, to Talk Shows on Mute to Anna Molly....I can't even begin to describe the euphoria that slowly pumps the blood flowing through my veins. Yes, it is that deep. There's something about the way Brandon Boyd sings...that just makes him the number one fuckable in the modern (some argue it can be jazzy) rock era.

My current listen-to would have to be the acoustic version of A Certain Shade of Green. Total chillout. Love it to pieces. I mean i was just sitting there viewing the Incubus Acoustic 60min show and i'm just fucking mesmerised. This is for my colleagues. TFP, SR and BR. Enjoy....

This post is dedicated to my mother. Since it's almost Mother's Day i just thought i'd make the shoutout early. Both my parents were rockers. Especially my Dad. I grew up influenced by the sound of the Eagles, Bee Gees, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Queen, Boney M, Kenny Rogers...hahahaha..loads and loads. They are one of the few people in my life who can make me jump of a cliff willingly. And i'd do it. Well...just cos'.

Anyways my dad used to laugh at my mom for listening to greek born singer Nana Mouskouri. My mom had her cd laying around, i remember it had this corny cover where it was just her and her black rimmed glasses and in those days cos it was cool, her hair parting in the middle. And i think her background for her photoshoot was coloured in blue or something like that. From what i can remember anyways.

So i don't know whether the album my mom had of hers had this song or not..but either way...i just wanna say Mom i love you. I'm sorry. Have a happy Mother's Day. Even if you don't know that this blog and you co-exist in the same world, for which i am thankful for btw..hahahha..cos this blog has had more swear words than!

Ambulance Ltd., be still my aching heart

Nowadays, it's extremely rare to listen to something real good, something you really like. Last time I ever felt like this was when I first listened to Cousteau. It literally made me jump out of my seat. Ever heard of Ambulance Ltd.? Well, they're not good. They're great. I have high hopes for this band. If you haven't heard of 'em, listen to "Stay where you are" and that might sound familiar to you. My friend, if you haven't heard of 'em, then you've come to the right place. This is exactly the reason why we created PFTD. To broaden your horizon of Music! OK, listen up. These guys are talented. Genre is mostly indie pop. But to my utter delight, I discovered what I personally think is their best song to date. It's called "Arbuckle's swan song". It's not like any of their other songs. This particular track has a mixture of the songs I personally like - scratch that - love, i.e. Style Council's "It's a very deep sea", Cousteau's "Last good day of the year", Eagles "I can't tell you why" and Todd Rundgren's "Hello, it's me". But then again - not quite. I swear to God, this song reminds me of something and it kills me that I can't put a finger on it. To my comrades TFP, BR and LE, you guys might know what it is. And you let me know when you do.

Yes, it's clear we ALL love music, blah blah blah...hence, the music blog. So anyway, Joss Stone's new album Introducing Joss Stone was just released. Not a big fan of her but I am an extemely big fan of a certain artiste she collaborated with. The very talented Lauryn Hill. God, I love her. I'd be her bitch any time. I think Joss Stone wanted to be her bitch too. Apparently, she too is a big fan of Lauryn Hill herself. She badly wanted to work with LH so bad, she wouldn't stop calling LH's mom until she did. OK, fine much respect for Joss Stone for trying hard to get what she wants. But since I really don't like her and somehow find her voice extremely annoying, I think she's a desperate cow. But yeah, check out Joss Stone's new song called "Music" featuring the one and only Lauryn Hill. The music kinda sounds like The Spinners' "I'll be around" song. Listen to it and let me know. The song's basically about how much in love she is with music. I sooo feel her. But seriously, I just CANNOT seem to like her. And I hate the fact that I like this song. I'm talking about Submersed from Texas. Started out in the early 90's but only just released their album entitled "In Due Time". They give out a lot of energy from their music. And if you are already bored of those commercialized sounding band like Blink 182 or Good Charlotte, then look no further. I'm telling you guys to get the album straight up. Dont do any illegal stuff from the internet cos you gotta respect this band man. They really sound new. From their dark music to the powerful vocals crooning out from Donald's wind pipe, I think the did everything perfect. They also did an acoustic version of Dripping, which is also in their debut album. The clarity, the Donald's voice and guitar crunching makes it all perfect. You see...how many times i mentioned the word 'perfect' to describe this band?? You have a look at their studio acoustic version and you see what i mean...

So this talent i'm showcasing goes by the name of OrtoPilot and hails from Manchester. He's not big yet, but has been compared to the likes of Jack Johnson.I personally like his style. Nice vocals. Soothing, soft, with a pinch of husky. Love it.

He made a cover out of Orson's No Tommorow and it sounds absolutely fabulous. I think this guy would have to work alot to make his own sound especially with the acoustic kings such John Mayer,Jack Johnson or Jason Mraz still crooning the stage like mad and their loyalists will be particularly critical at this rate. But nevertheless, i'll vouch for this guy..after all...i featured him didn't i?Hahahahah..TFP,BR and SF, i think you'll like this....

So this is strictly from The Rentals. They were a band formed by former bass player, Matt Sharp from Weezer. It's called "I just threw out the love of my dreams". This song takes me back..Like all songs that i've featured so far. Love it to pieces and boy was i glad that song was found in YouTube. Damn i love that website. I'm such a YouTube junkie.
